Gunshot at Lagos airport, senator's orderly injured

– Two people narrowly escaped death at the Lagos airport following a gunshot which was believed to be an accidental discharge

– The gun of an orderly attached to a Senator accidentally discharged when he wanted to lodge his gun, which is a standard practice on air travel

– The orderly and a woman were injured and taken to nearby hospital for treatment

There was panic at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, on Friday, July 8, as the gun of an orderly attached to a Senator accidentally discharged when he tried to remove the magazine before boarding a flight.

The orderly and a woman standing by were injured on the legs, Sahara Reporters reports.

According to eye witness account, the orderly who was to travel on Arik Air wanted to dislodge the magazine from the gun in line with standard practice in air travel but incidentally the gun released its bullet and hit him and another woman on the leg.

On hearing the gunshot within the terminal, travelers and airport workers scampered for safety.

The orderly and the woman were said to have trekked out of the terminal to the vehicle that conveyed them to the hospital without any assistance as the injury was not that severe.

Confirming the incident, Yakubu Dati, the general manager, Public Affairs of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), said it was an accident and stowing the gun away with its magazine was a standard procedure because guns are not taken on-board aircraft but are usually checked in the luggage compartment.

Describing the incident as minor, he assured air travellers that all the airports are safe and secure, adding that security at Nigerian airports has been fortified in recognition of the security challenges in the country and around the world.

Reasons Ronaldo and Messi May Never Win Trophies for Their Respective Countries

Arguably, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are two of the greatest footballers of all time and the duo have continued to enjoy fame and fortune with the round-leathered game.

However, one thing that eludes both players is the fact that they are yet to win a recognized competition for their respective countries.

Messi just lost another of four finals in three years while Ronaldo will be playing in his first final for Portugal at Euro 2016 since the same tournament 2004 his home country Portugal hosted.

The following are the reasons the duo might never win trophies for their respective nations.

1. They have never impressed at major competitions – Both players have always been the toast of the Champions League and they are always going neck-to-neck for the golden boot award.

However they have not been able to replicate their form at club level in national colours. Messi failed at the last hurdle in the last World Cup and two Copa America finals respectively.

Lionel Messi quit the national team after the Copa America final
As for CR7, Portugal’s chances of winning the European trophy against host country France are very slim as many believe they qualified into the finals with the stroke of luck.

2. Their games are built around goals – For every tournament both players appear, they jostle for the top scorer’s award but their contributions to other departments of the game especially the defence, these guys have been found wanting.

For every great player, the versatility in all areas of the field of play matters, not only to the team but to the fans at large.

3. The great players have never won trophies for their countries –Ronaldo and Messi share five Champions League trophies between themselves but for their countries, there is not even a single medal in the cabinet.

The great Pele once said that for both Messi and Ronaldo to become legends like himself, Maradona and Zidane, they have to make their mark at the world stage which is the World Cup.

4. Character – To whom much is given much is expected, apart from being admired on the pitch for their enviable skills, the duo have had questionable characters off the field.

Messi was recently convicted for tax related offences, while Ronaldo rudely threw a journalist microphone into a lake which does not speak well about both players.

Ronaldo seaking to Iceland captain Gunnarsson after their teams played a draw in their first match of the tournament
5. They have only succeeded with great teams – The Portuguese and the Argentine have had the opportunities to play for established championship winning teams like Manchester United/Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively which have made them what they are today.

However the greatness in a player is one who carries a team from the bottom to become a contender for the a trophy. The legendary Maradona turned Napoli to league contenders in the Italian Serie A during his playing days.

How to really make money by buying and selling things

If you want to start your own business, all you need is to be creative. Your idea doesn’t necessarily have to be a brand new one, it doesn’t have to be something never considered before. You just have to think and act reas

Think about what you want to do, about whether it is going to be profitable and demanded in your area, and what range of people are going to be your potential clients. It may seem too complicated in theory, and it is definitely very responsible and time consuming in practice. But if you are sure the effort is worth that risk taken, don’t be afraid to go for it.

In case you aren’t sure where to start from, consider the sphere of trade. It doesn’t mean you will have to rent a counter and spend days standing among rows of sellers. Now you have the Internet and its limitless (well, almost limitless) opportunities. For instance, you can try to sell something people lack. Where could you get it? That’s easy: on Amazon or AliExpress, places where you can find everything and after that sell it on Jiji.ng. How is it going to work? Very successfully.

What are the benefits?

If it seems too easy for you, or you cannot believe it can bring real profit, take some time and devote it to simple calculations.

Let’s suppose you are going to sell Huawei Nexus 6P 32GB. Its price (including delivery) equals to $464.97 or ₦131,230.62 here from Amazon.

After that you will make markup 10% and now the price is = $511.47 And sell it via Jiji.ng near you location. In total your profit is = $46.50

And now, Imagine that you bought 9-phones for $4184.73, waited two weeks (because of delivery) and sell via Jiji.ng all 9-phones, so your total profit is $4603,23 – $4184.73 = $418.50 or ₦118,009.39

Nice, yes?

And what about prices for the new one on Jumia? ₦272,495 for the new one…

Let’s look at iPhone 5S 16GB!

Aliexpress! Price for this iPhone is $214,19 or ₦60,401.58 including delivery to Nigeria.

And this is the price on Konga:

So what can we do? We can buy 9-iPhones on Alliexpress and sell in Nigeria using Jiji.ng

Let’s calculate: We bought 9 iPhones = $1,927.71 Sold via Jiji with markup 10% = $2,120.49 Our profit is = $192.78

Or even simpler: watches.

Ordinary accessories aren’t highly priced and can be a good start for non-believers. Ordinary women Geneva watch can be sold for $4.31-$6.85, and after selling 12 of those you get from $39 to $61.

“Here are some calculates for you to consider”

How to start?

Step 1. Find out what are the people’s needs

If you have someone to help you with this, it would be perfect. But you can also hire an expert for professional consulting. Or you can always spend some time researching the field (if you have enough time and patience, of course).

In the end, you will get to know about three types of market trends – short, intermediate- and long-term ones, each with its own peculiarities.

Learning to identify the trend is the major task. You need to know the psychology of the market in order to understand how it moves and changes. For instance, primary markets are active for 1 to 3 years, while secular trends do for 1 to 3 decades; intermediate trends last for several weeks, and long-term trends can be unpredictable in terms of duration.

Besides, you have to understand a potential buyer. Maybe you belong to this category, too, so it will be easier to see a picture. But in any case, you’ll have to cope with a lot of analytical data. Explore native market and find out whether similar products exist there or not, whether people need or like them, whether they are ready to pay money for these products, or will tend to find an alternative.

The easiest way to find out what will be sold successfully in Nigeria is to analyze the statistics – which items are searched most often in Google and other searching systems. You can also choose another way. The more popular an item is, the more people will be trying to sell it. If you can offer something completely new, try it. Both variants can be a risky business, and both can grow into a real business. Everything depends only on you.

Step 2. Buy stuff

After you have decided what to sell, you should find the place where to buy it. Well, we’ve already mentioned Amazon and AliExpress, and these two sources will be the best options. Searching what you need there is quite easy: type in a special line at the top of home page or choose a proper category and look through the suggested results. You will be offered several (or rather numerous) filters in order to specify the search.

Speaking about delivery, you should find out everything about terms and conditions, for your business affairs, which are dependent on it completely. Remember that shipping to places outside the US does not mean getting desired items only, but being a subject to taxes and customs duties.

If we speak about Amazon, you will have to deal with “Import Fee Deposit”, which may vary depending on an order. For technology, some warrants may not be valid, and instructions sometimes aren’t translated into your native language. The price of international shipping isn’t fixed, it varies by item, shipment and shipping option. Nevertheless, with free AmazonGlobal shipping you can receive or send everything free of charge. In general, the list of delivery options and estimated delivery date always differ. Everything depends on a variety of factors, such as product’s weight, size, delivery address etc. You can receive a package directly to your home, business address, or Pickup Point. Meanwhile, you can track your parcel. Your order can be delivered in parts, carried by several couriers, delivered faster in case you indicate it etc.

You can receive your precious things in Nigeria during 2-8 days paying $3.99 / $4.99 per item and $21.99 per delivery.

AliExpress, in its turn, offers a wide range of shipping solutions, which are in most cases set up by the suppliers. Some orders incur additional custom charges and import duties, which can be checked before ordering. Shipping costs are set up by suppliers and, consequently, depend on a particular country.

The fastest delivery lasts for 3 to 7 days and is more expensive, while the longest estimated delivery time equals to 15-26 days or even longer on holidays and sometimes is even free. Luckily for users, they can choose different options in order to get items more quickly or find lower prices. Moreover, you can always contact a supplier for more information. Actually, it is the best way to find out exact terms, for every country and every supplier works a bit differently.

Step 3. Sell stuff

When you take a minute to think about everything above mentioned, it doesn’t seem that obscure anymore. And the process of selling things is even easier than buying. First of all, you can be 99% sure that the number of potential buyers will be quite big. The reason is simple: you are the only (or one of a few) in the entire country who sells stuff they were looking for.

Some may be worried with a question: why wouldn’t those people buy everything on Amazon or AliExpress just like you? There are several reasons. First of all, buying from familiar websites functioning in your own country always seems more secure. Secondly, it is much easier. Thirdly, it is much quicker.

All they need is to open good old Jiji.ng – the biggest Nigerian classifieds website, their favorite place for shopping.

And all you need is to post an ad. Open the website, register or sign in with Facebook page and start acting. By the way, all ads are posted for free. Click on a proper button and fill the form. You’ll have to indicate several suggested parameters, write a description and attach a photo. The secret of creating an attractive ad has been unveiled, too: write shortly and with no lies. And don’t forget to indicate valid contacts, so buyers can call or email you. The rest is handled by personal communication with other users – Jiji stands for direct communication between users with no any mediators or assistants.

What difficulties am I to face?

Logically, a lot of people will be attracted to your goods. But sometimes everything works differently. That’s why you should think of premium plan and boost packages. Everything is easy. You get average chances for selling all items. And though these are great things of high quality, they won’t appear at the top of the page. Why does it happen so? Because there are people, who don’t hesitate to ask for help. As a result, they order premium services.

With premium services your ad appears first. Boost plans work a bit differently, but are a good help, too. If you buy a top position for your ad (or several ads), they appear first and have more chances to be noticed. Actually, they are literally noticed more often. When you order a boost plan, an ad may not appear as fast, but special algorithm helps automatized system work much more effectively.

What should I be afraid of?

Actually, nothing. There is no reason to get nervous. You should just be aware of several difficulties, which usually don’t take place.

One of the reasons people don’t like to order things overseas is a fear that a package can get lost somewhere. Frankly speaking, it can happen. But don’t forget that shipping services take responsibility for every loss. In most cases things are found, and if not, you get a full compensation. In addition, you can always choose an “Insurance” option when processing your order.

Scammers are another reason for worrying. Unfortunately, the Internet provides a lot of possibilities for all people, and those who want to make a profit on others are not an exception. So a clear mind is your best friend here. Never pay in advance. Always specify the details. Pay attention to seller’s / company’s reputation (it is possible thanks to reviews and feedbacks).

Both Amazon and AliExpress work hard on improving their services. Both have well-functioning safety systems and do everything possible to protect you from spam, frauds, or any other difficulties.

So when everything is clear, you should just crawl up the page and finally decide, what exactly you are going to sell. Good luck, and see you on Jiji.ng!

Unpaid salaries: Wike, Fayose, others dragged to court

– A civil society organisation, SERAP has written a petition against 11 state governors owing workers salaries

– The group asked the ICC to bring to justice anyone who is responsible for the inhumane acts committed against Nigerian workers

– The state governments owing workers salaries were accused of committing crimes against humanity

Eleven state governors have been dragged to the International Criminal Court (ICC) by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) over their failure to pay workers salaries.

In the petition dated July 7, and signed by its executive director, Adetokunbo Mumuni, the group accused state governments owing workers salaries of committing crimes against humanity, This Day reports.

The group said it was concerned that non-payment of workers’ salaries by several state governments in Nigeria has made life impossible to live for the workers and their families.

SERAP urged the ICC prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, to probe the collective punishment and crimes against humanity on workers owed salaries.

The petition read: “The state governors ought to know that their actions and/or omissions would likely cause serious physical or mental suffering or a serious attack upon the human dignity of workers whose salaries are not paid.

“Non-payment of salaries for several months has reduced Nigerian workers to ‘bare life’, or life not worth living, thus taking away their human dignity. The inhumanity of the non-payment of workers’ salaries is illustrated by the serious threats this poses to the workers’ physical and mental health, and family life as well as their ability to contribute to the development of the country. The non-payment of salaries has created an environment of powerlessness for several workers and perpetuated a system of impunity in many states.

“SERAP believes that the non-payment of salaries of workers amounts to a serious attack on human dignity covered in the definition of ‘other inhumane acts’ under the Rome Statute, and fit within the ICC’s mandate. The gravity of non-payment of workers’ salaries for several months should not be dismissed a priori as lesser than that of the radically egregious acts the ICC has so far prosecuted.”

The civil society organization argued that depriving workers of their salaries amounts to depriving them of their livelihood and necessities to the right to life and human dignity and also cause them suffering.

SERAP therefore, urged the ICC to bring to justice anyone who is responsible for the inhumane acts committed against Nigerian workers as prohibited under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court to which Nigeria is a state party.

The group listed the 11 governors it dragged before the ICC as; Rauf Agbesola of Osun state, Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state, Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state, Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state ,Nyesom Wike of Rivers state.

Others are Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state, Samuel Ortom of Benue state, Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi state, Yahaya Bello of Kogi state and Simon Lalong of Plateau state.

Mushrooms provide critical Vitamin D

People who eat just three special mushrooms grown in the Republic of Ireland consume 100 percent of their daily Vitamin D recommendation.

The mushrooms, produced by Monaghan Mushrooms in Tyholland, County Monaghan, and retailed by Marks & Spencer, have been enhanced with Vitamin D2 by a new process. Marks & Spencer says it is the only retailer in the United Kingdom to offer Vitamin D-boosted mushrooms, and that it has sold a whopping 500,000 packs of them. According to the retailer, almost 50 percent of growth in its mushroom category has come from Vitamin D mushrooms alone since their launch in late 2014.

Geoff Taylor, product manager at Monaghan Mushrooms, said, “We’ve known for a long time that mushrooms are a food for the future; they’re low in calories yet rich in potassium, B vitamins and folate.

“Knowing that a lack of vitamin D in the UK is a major health issue, we started working toward developing a vitamin D mushroom. New research shows that in the UK we don’t get enough vitamin D from sunlight alone, meaning dietary vitamin D is absolutely needed.

“The longer mushrooms are out in the sunlight the more vitamin D they contain; however they don’t need sunlight to grow. Our mushrooms are grown inside houses where they are exposed to a high-wattage light for a few seconds. The bulb, which contains wavelengths of light including (ultraviolet), acts like the sun and through a natural process the mushrooms make vitamin D, just like wild outdoor-grown mushrooms.

“We are delighted that we have now sold half a million packs in just a year and a half. To give you an idea of how many mushrooms that is, if we laid out all the packs end-to-end they’d reach from Central London to Brighton with 15 miles left over.

“Customers have reacted very positively to Vitamin D mushrooms and we look forward to continuing this partnership with (Marks & Spencer).”

According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, the deficiency isn’t limited to the United Kingdom. A large part of the population in the United States also suffers from it.

“Mounting evidence suggests that vitamin D deficiency could be linked to several chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease and cancer,” the institute states.

The institute conducted a study to examine the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency.

“The overall prevalence rate of vitamin D deficiency was 41.6 percent, with the highest rate seen in blacks at 82.1 percent, followed by Hispanics at 69.2 percent,” the study concluded. “Vitamin D deficiency was significantly more common among those who had no college education, were obese, with a poor health status, hypertension, low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level, or not consuming milk daily. In summary, vitamin D deficiency was common in the U.S. population, especially among blacks and Hispanics. Given that vitamin D deficiency is linked to some of the important risk factors of leading causes of death in the United States, it is important that health professionals are aware of this connection and offer dietary and other intervention strategies to correct vitamin D deficiency, especially in minority groups.”

Helen Seward, Marks & Spencer company nutritionist, said, “Vitamin D mushrooms taste just like regular brown mushrooms, but come with added benefits.

“We know from UK dietary surveys that vitamin D levels are low across most of the population – this bone-healthy vitamin has long been associated with a number of other conditions such as heart health, diabetes and cognitive function.

“Just three Vitamin D mushrooms provide your daily amount of vitamin D, which would be the same as one whole fillet of salmon or five bowls of fortified breakfast cereal.”

Newly discovered planet has triple sunrises, sunsets

This image provided by the European Southern Observatory shows an artist's impression of the triple star system HD 131399 from close to the gas giant planet orbiting in the system. (L. Calçada/ESO via AP)

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. –  Imagine a planet with triple sunrises and sunsets every day for part of the year, and nonstop daylight at other times.

Astronomers revealed such a place Thursday: a strange new world in the Constellation Centaurus that has not one, not two, but three suns. What's more, a year there lasts half a millennium from Earth's perspective.

Discoverer and lead author Kevin Wagner said he's thrilled "to have seen such a beautiful part of nature that nobody else has seen."

As amazing as three sunsets and sunrises are, "I think nature will have some other surprises in store for us as we continue exploring," Wagner, a doctoral student at the University of Arizona at Tucson, said via email.

Triple-star systems with detected planets are rare enough; this is believed to be just the fifth such discovery. But the giant gassy world in this one — formally known as Planet HD 131399Ab — has the biggest known orbit in a multi-star system.

Its orbit is double Pluto's — or roughly 550 Earth years. That's how long it takes to orbit its system's brightest star, a super-size sun. The two smaller stars orbit one another and, as a pair, orbit with their big stellar brother.

Planet HD 131399Ab has four times the mass of our own Jupiter. With such a wide orbit and companion stars, scientists would expect a planet like this to be kicked out in a tug of stellar war. Yet that's not the case.

During part of the planet's orbit, all three stars are visible on the same day, offering triple sunrises and sunsets and allowing for day and night. For about one-fourth of its year — around 100 to 140 Earth years — there's continuous daylight. That's because as the big sun is rising, the two smaller ones are setting.

"With three suns, the planet will see different weird combinations of sunrises and sunsets," said co-author Daniel Apai, a University of Arizona astronomer.

He added: "This is a system for which I would not want to design a calendar."

The astronomers used the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope in Chile to spot the planet 320 light-years away. It is one of the few exoplanets — planets outside our own solar system — to be directly imaged. Most exoplanets are identified by periodic dips in starlight as the planets pass between us and their stars.

The team reported the discovery Thursday in the journal Science.

As for the planet's alphabet-soup label, "I wish we had a better name," Wagner noted. There is an official protocol for naming planets and their surface features. The International Astronomical Union, in fact, has a relatively new group to handle public naming campaigns.

"Informally, we called in "The Planet," Apai said in an email. "But with more possible planet candidates in sight, we will have to change this soon."

Female NYSC Corps Member Burnt to Death in Akwa Ibom Buried Amid Tears (Photos)

The remains of the female NYSC corps member who was burnt to death in an accident some weeks ago has been laid to rest in her home town in Imo state as friends and well wishers shivered down to their spines.

We reported it here a few weeks ago that a female National Youth Servive Corps (NYSC) member was burnt to death alongside a young boy who was returning from school in a tragic car accident which occured in Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government of Akwa Ibom State.
The 26-year-old corps member identified as Ngozi Onyekwere, has been finally laid to eternal rest on Thursday in her home town in Imo state, as her interment sent shivers down well wishers’ spines.
The Director-General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, described as shocking, the death of the corps member, who is an Accounting graduate from the University of Port Harcourt.

The DG who was represented by Reverend Akinolu Ajayi, said during the funeral that the late Ngozi’s demise was shocking and painful to the NYSC, “It is very painful that death struck when Ngozi was serving her nation, just two months to her passing out of the scheme.”
Also speaking during the funeral, the Coordinator of the NYSC in Akwa Ibom state, Mrs Ngozi Chukwuka, described the late Ngozi as a diligent corps member, adding that her posting to the government house was based on merit.

“When the Akwa Ibom State Government House asked for three corps members who studied Accounting, Ngozi was among the three that scaled through out of the 38 graduates interviewed.

“It is not the NYSC that caused her death. Her death during the NYSC programme was one of the vicissitudes of life. It is pertinent at this juncture to disclose that the NYSC bore all the expenses incurred for the burial of the deceased. It is our prayer that God grants her soul eternal repose,” the coordinator said.

I’m into cement business, all you said above is a typical LIE.

1. You can never purchase only one trailer of 900bags from dangote cement factory as a distributor

2. You can never get 1 bag at #1000 no matter the quantity you want.

3. You can never buy on credit from the factory

4. Distributors earn their income from monthly commission they get from the number of trailers they sell per month

5. Distributors sometimes sell cheaper than factory Price, this is to ensure they meet up to their monthly expectation.

Cristiano Ronaldo Equals Michel Platini’s Euro Scoring Record

Cristiano Ronaldo has achieved yet another record after his goal for Portugal in Wednesday’s 2-0 UEFA EURO 2016 semi-final win against Wales drew him level with Michel Platini’s long-standing final-tournament career total of nine.

While Platini managed his nine goals in the space of five games at the 1984 finals in France, Ronaldo has reached that tally while establishing another new mark along the way. In the 3-3 Group F draw with Hungary he set a record of 17 finals appearances in the competition and, with his first strike that day, also became the only player to score in four different UEFA EURO tournaments, following goals in 2004, 2008 and 2012.

If that was his seventh finals goal, the 31-year-old’s second against Hungary took him to the brink of catching Platini. After setting up the winner in the round of 16 against Croatia and also netting in the quarter-final shoot-out versus Poland, the forward’s latest feat was then confirmed in Lyon with his third strike of this tournament – on what was his 20th UEFA EURO outing – putting him on a par with the great French No10.

Ladies, See how to Catch Your cheat*ng Boo Red Handed (Must Read)

cheat*ng murders your relationship or marriage! So, how do you avoid being a fool and catch a cheater? These tips will save you pain and time wasted on an unfaithful person.

8 working signs and tips on how to catch a cheater

Try to make love to them after the “long” work day

These tricks work the best with the cheat*ng husbands. What if your man stays long hours at work and that happens often enough? Well, it’s a sign he might be cheat*ng. Do your hair, get some makeup on and your $exiest lingerie. Come up to him after such a “long work day” and offer to have $ex.

Watch for his reaction. Evidently, he can be just tired, but if you try hard to prepare, he would not be able to refuse such an incredible offer, unless… he just has been with another woman! Try this experiment couple of times. If he does not want to have $ex with you or acts differently from normal, most likely he is cheat*ng on you!

Get in the phone

This is almost as good as getting in his or her head! First of all, check to see, if they got a password protection on the phone. If they do, ask them to give it to you, but play a trick. Create an urgent situation, when you need to make a call and your phone is off (dead battery, etc.). Get his or her phone in your hands and ask to give you the password. Watch for the reaction.

If they have nothing to hide, they would not mind doing that. Look for the text messages and phone calls from a possible lover. Even if you do not find them, but see a clear SMS box, that’s alarming. It means they regularly delete the messages there to hide something.

Get online to catch a cheater

Go to his social media profile to see what’s going on there. In most cases, spouses who trust each other share their Facebook or other social sites’ passwords. If they changed it, it’s alarming. Is there a person of the opposite $ex they are regularly chatting with? Is your husband or wife keeps liking their photos or post regularly? Do you closely know that person? All these are possible signs of cheat*ng.

Get in the wardrobe

That’s a trick to use with a man. If you suspect him of cheat*ng, use your smell to prove it. Notice him smelling with a female perfume and it’s not yours? Keep on sniffing out. Smell the clothes he has worn, especially those he puts on and stays late at work. Check all the pockets. You may find more signs of cheat*ng there: a shop check for a present or something else.

Watch for radical changes

If your spouse wants to impress someone they are romantically engaged with, they will change their behavior. Did he buy new sunglasses and start attending a gym to look his best? Did she buy tons of new makeup, clothes and fancy lingerie (more than usual)? Do they use new words daily? What might be the reason for such rapid changes? The person might be a cheater!

Install a spyware on his phone

Such software can resend you all his text messages and the number he has been calling. You can get the reliable information on his communications. The spyware can also tell you where the person is now. So, if you call him and he tells you one location, but he actually is at another, he might be cheat*ng.

Follow him

He gets an urgent call from his “work” in the off work hours? Try to spy on him personally and see, where he is headed!

Just ask them

That’s the simplest thing to do. Surely, there is no guarantee the answer would be honest. Still, you can watch the reaction. It’s not that hard to spot a liar, especially if you live long with that person and know them well.

cheat*ng is awful, and it hurts to know the person you love and trust does this to you. However, knowing the truth is essential. Stop closing your eyes on his or her affairs and stop waiting your time on someone who is not

12-Year-Old Boy Kills 10-Year Old Friend For Abusing Him

Samson Egunje, 12, has killed his friend, Samuel Igbekele, 10, for allegedly abusing him. This happened last Saturday night on Omoboriowo Street, Ikotun, Lagos State, when Samuel was sent on an errand by a neighbor.
Samson who claimed Samuel insulted him in the morning, had been looking for him all day before he found him that night and stabbed him with a bottle on the neck. He was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed dead on arrival. .
The police investigations are almost concluded for the matter to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.
This is just tragic. If not for d fact that Samson is a minor, one would’ve said he should b sent to 2 months in jail without an option of fine.

Point System admission Option: JAMB is confused

Stakeholders have criticised the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, and the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, for adopting the Point System Option, PSO, for provisional admission.

According to them, the policy somersault of Malam Adamu was a clear indication of confusion.

JAMB had, during its meeting with universities and other tertiary institutions’ administrators in Abuja on Monday, adopted PSO for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The adoption was sequel to the cancellation of the Post-UTME by the Minister of Education on June 2.

ASUU

Speaking with Vanguard, UNILAG-ASUU Chairman, Dr Laja Odukoya, said with the actions and policies taken so far, the Minister of Education had deepened the confusion he created.

He said: “Clearly, the minister is merely deepening the confusion he has created, based on ill-conceived policy and lack of courage to do what is right.”

He said the point system was in use at the University of Ibadan, but was jettisoned at the introduction of post-UTME, adding that the latest policy somersault indicated that JAMB could not be trusted with university admission.

Odukoya said: “With the new arrangement, candidates of miracle centres, who bought their scores in WASCE, NECO and UTME, are advantaged over hard working, honest and diligent students.”

From Ibadan

On his part, Deputy Director, Distant Learning Centre, University of Ibadan, Professor Oyesoji Aremu, said: “JAMB and the Ministry of Education seem not to understand what exactly they want for education in respect of candidates seeking admission.”

According to him, within a space of a month, JAMB had “foisted two admission policies on the country.

“A few weeks ago, JAMB, through the Minister of Education, ‘decreed’ that money must not be charged by universities for pre-admission exercise, while the latest development stated that universities would charge fee for screening at the end of the process of admission. What do we call that? Confusion.”

Aremu, who admitted PSO was good, added that it would be quality-driven because it would not make admission to be solely dependent on UTME scores.

He, however, pointed out that the initiative was an indication that JAMB scores were not fool-proof as evident in unsubstantiated scores and post-admission academic performance.

Point System Option

PSO is a process whereby a candidate’s total points are got from the ‘O’ Level grades and JAMB scores. It means each grade would have its equivalent point: A=6, B=4 marks, C=3 marks.

The system suggests that the better a candidate’s ‘O’ Level grades, the better his or her chances of securing admission.

Closely allied to the above is the UTME scores: according to JAMB, candidates with a score of 180 to185 get 20 points; 186 to 190 get 21; between 200 and 250, 24-33, while those who scored 300 to 400, get 44 to 60 points.

JAMB added: “Any candidate who submits one result which has the relevant subjects, has 10 points.

“The exam could be NECO, WASSCE, November/December WASSCE among others. But any candidate who has two sittings only gets two points.”

The addition of these points and points from ‘O’ Level results gives a candidate total points for admission.

“Cut-off marks will be released by the institutions this year in the form of points and not marks,” JAMB added.

Democracy is on trial in Abia- Gov Ikpeazu

By Anayo Okoli

Umuahia— Embattled Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state who was sacked from office on Thursday by a Federal High Court Abuja for alleged tax evasion declared yesterday that democracy was on trial in the state but vowed to challenge the court verdict up to the Supreme Court. Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja had in his judgement on Monday ordered INEC to issue a certificate of return to Ikpeazu’s challenger, Dr Uche Ogah and also ordered Ikpeazu to vacate office.

• Abia state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu addressing a group of Abia people on a solidarity visit to Government House, Umuahia, yesterday.

The development caused tension in the state on Thursday, following an alleged attempt by Ogah to get the state Chief Judge, Justice Theresa Uzokwe, to swear him in as the governor. Briefing newsmen at the Presidential Lodge, Government House, Umuahia, yesterday, Ikpeazu who was flanked by his deputy, Chief Ude Oko Chukwu, the Deputy Speaker of the House and some of his aides, said the illegality would not stand and that he remained the governor.

He said, “I am still the governor of Abia, so, I appeal to our people to remain calm until the final verdict of the Supreme Court. This illegality will not stand. I will test the judgment in the Appeal Court up to the Supreme Court. “Even if it was a death sentence, I don’t think that I will be executed without right of appeal.

“That right is fundamental, that right is undeniable and a denial of that right is a denial of my fundamental right. There is no doubt over who is in charge or who the governor of Abia State is because you people witnessed the day we were sworn-in and you also all witnessed the day we took oath of allegiance and no other person has taken that oath again as the Governor of Abia State”, Dr. Ikpazu said.

The governor who wondered the “urgency and desperation” with which Ogah wanted to be sworn-in, vowed that “we are resolute to defend the mandate given us by the people”. The governor said that he was resolute in his determination to defend the mandate given to him and assured the people that the mandate was still intact. “What is on trial in Abia is democracy and not me as a person, “he said . According to him, the tenets of democracy emphasise that the will of the people is sacrosanct . The governor urged the people to disregard the speculation in some quarters that the crisis in the state was influenced by the Federal Government.

He said that the Federal government, which is currently fighting corruption in the country, could not indulge in such an act that was antithetical to democracy. Speaking on the allegation of tax evasion levelled against him by Ogah, Ikpeazu said that, as a government employee, his tax was paid to Abia Board of Internal Revenue. He said that the board had come out with an affidavit to prove that the tax receipts he tendered were issued by it and was ready to defend the documents. Ikpeazu expressed happiness over the conduct of youths in the state and urged them to maintain their calmness.

He said that “Abia is calm contrary to current act of wanton destruction of oil pipelines in other Niger Delta states in the country.  Abia perhaps is the only Niger Delta state in the country where youths have refused to join in vandalising Federal Government pipeline installations.”

FC Barcelona Unveils Academy In Nigeria

The Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Deji Tinubu, on Tuesday said the government would ensure the smooth operation of FC Barcelona Academy in Nigeria by supporting its plans for youths.
Tinubu made the promise at the unveiling of the academy, named “FCBESCOLA’’, which is to be sited temporarily at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

He said that football, one of the cardinal programmes the government wanted to use to encourage youth engagement in the economy would continue to get the desired attention.

“Gov. Ambode made a promise at the inception of his administration that sports will be part of his drive towards a vibrant economy in Lagos State.

“The state wants to use sports and entertainment to put itself on the world map; through youth engagement and economic prospects; not only the youth but also the entire citizenry.

“The FC Barcelona Academy in Lagos is the first of its kind in Africa and this tells us that when people talk about football in Lagos they are talking about Barcelona.

“The club as one of the biggest brands in modern day football will open its first football academy in Africa in Lagos and every child in the state will learn about their values,’’ he said.

Tinubu declared that he would personally fund the training of 10 children in the academy as part of his support.

“I will personally sponsor 10 children to the academy because I so much believe in their values as one of the most successful clubs in the whole world.

“The academy has also promised to employ 10 indigenous coaches and create many employments through the services that will be rendered in the academy.

“Our youths will get the right value of Barcelona FC which will be more beneficial the development of football in Lagos, Nigeria and Africa in general.

“It is a fantastic thing happening in Lagos, being a model for the development of sports and a trail blazer in economic drive through sports,’’ he said.

Speaking, Seyi Akinwunmi, Ist Vice-president, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), said the birth of the academy was a fulfillment of the prophesy made about five years ago.

“I predicted it about five years ago that Barcelona will come to Lagos to have a model of how to play good football and here we are to witness the fulfillment.

“I am happy that the academy is starting off from Lagos, football in Nigeria is back to its root and we will be having great ideas as a model.

“Our kids will learn how to play the pattern of Barcelona which is high pressing, high possession and quality football which we have been trying to emulate in our age grade teams.

“Lagos has been selected to be an ambassador of good things to happen in Nigerian football and it will also win a place on the world stage,’’ he said.

Akinwunmi also pledged to send five children to the academy.

On the vision, mission and the model which the academy will adopt in its operation, the academy’s Sport Director in Nigeria, Lesile Oghomienor, said it would be a world standard.

“We are planning to have a 7,000 capacity academy stadium with all the sports facilities such as gyms offices and training pitches.

“The academy will also admit children from ages six to 18 that are good for grassroots development. We hope to do that within the next two years.

“We hope that in the next few years, products of our academy will win the U-17 World Cup for Nigeria.

The Project Manager for FC Barcelona in Europe and Africa Football Schools, Inaki Gonzallo, said the academy would adopt the same curriculum used to train the successful products of the academy in Nigeria.

“We have produced many world class footballers from our academy and we will use the same curriculum in the Nigerian academy.

“The academy has been successful in bringing up great footballers around the globe playing for big clubs, I hope Nigeria’s case is not far from that,’’ he said.

FCBESCOLA will open on Sept. 17 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium as temporary site.

How to Calculate Points as JAMB Adopts “Point System” Option for 2016 Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced the release of its guidelines for the 2016 admissions’ process.

The method, described as the point system option, was adopted after an extensive one-week meeting JAMB had with universities and other tertiary institutions’ administrators  in the country.

According to the guidelines contained in a statement placed on its website on Monday night, JAMB said that the modalities were going to be based on point system.

While explaining how the admission process would work for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination candidates and direct entry students, the organisation stated that universities were going to charge fees for screening of candidates at the end of the process for admission.

According to JAMB, the new method uses a point system to offer provisional admission to candidates.

“Before a candidate can be considered for screening, he/she must have been offered a provisional admission by JAMB. The JAMB admission checker portal is going to be opened soon for this process, so praying is all you can do now,” JAMB said.

The second process, it said, was the point system where admission would depend on the point tally of the candidate.

The statement said, “JAMB’s provisional admission no longer makes much sense this year, your points tally will decide your faith. The points are evenly spread out between your O’ Level and JAMB results to provide a level-playing field for all.

“In the first case, any candidate who submits only one result which contains his/her relevant subjects already has 10 points. The exam could be NECO, WASSCE, November/December WASSCE etc, but any candidate who has two sittings only gets 2 points. So this means that candidates with only one result are at an advantage but only just.”

The organisation added that the “next point grades fell into the O’ Level grades where each grade would have it equivalent point;  A=6 marks, B=4 marks, C=3 marks, so the better the candidates’  grades, the better his or her  chances of securing admission this year.

“The next point is the UTME scores where each score range has its equivalent point which can be summarised thus, 180-200=20-23 marks, 200-250=24-33 points, 251-300=34-43, 300-400=44-60 points,” JAMB explained.

Giving a breakdown, JAMB explained that each category would contain five JAMB results per point added.

For example a candidate with 180-185 gets 20 points, while a candidate with 186-190 gets 21 points.

JAMB added that the point system for direct entry would be released soon.

JAMB stated that fees would still be charged for screening which would replace the Post UTME test.

JAMB also emphasised that catchment and educationally less-developed state would still be used for admission into the nation’s tertiary institutions.

JAMB said, “Merit contains 45 per cent of the total candidates for a particular course, Catchment contains 35 per cent and ELDS and staff lists contains the rest. Cut off marks will be released by the institutions this year in the form of points and not marks.

“If a school declares its cut off mark for Medicine as 90 points and JAMB grants a candidate with 250 a provisional admission but his/her total points falls short of the 90 points, then he/she will lose the admission. So the provisional admission is just a means to an end, not the end in itself.”
